Previous Season Accomplishments – 2019 Class A State Champions

NEST Analysis – The 2019 Class A champions come into 2021 ready to defend their place atop the mountain. Under normal circumstances that is a difficult task, now also consider that this is a team made up of almost entirely new faces. Good thing talent is always prevalent at Millard West. Coach Tevis-Butler has designed her program to reload not rebuild. However, chemistry and experience are necessary ingredients for a successful season. Those more subtle characteristics are mostly unknown at this point. It may only take a few games, but more observation is needed for these new look Wildcats. Even with that uncertainty, it would be silly to view this team as anything less than an absolute contender. Nebraska Soccer Talk has ranked Millard West as the #6 team in Class A in our first ever pre-season poll.

The Links have accepted that challenge and are looking to move passed .500 records. This squad will be filled with experience, including the talented Ian Becerra. Overall, Becerra is one of the more talented players in the Lincoln area. With a few more complementary pieces around him, this could be a major year of progress for Lincoln High.  We will be watching him and this Links program carefully during the 2021 season.

NEST Analysis – A traditional powerhouse for boy’s soccer in the state of Nebraska, Millard West has hit a rough patch in recent years. Simply put, a losing or .500 record is not the standard within the Wildcat program. Coach Juan Aguirre’s first season was cancelled due to COVID. This is a new coach with an extensive amount of playing and coaching experience. During the 2021 season, it will be interesting to see how he has changed the program with two off-seasons to build. Overall, Millard West is an exceptional program with state title expectations. Look for the team to progress towards those lofty goals. NEST Analysis – Like many private schools, the Thunderbolts have flipped-flopped between Class A and B in recent years. This presents a unique circumstance as they are one of the larger schools when in Class B, yet one of the smallest when in Class A. This is an experience that very few programs are familiar with. 

Despite that fluidity, Pius has been competitive regardless of its class. It is a program that plays in a very structured manner that maximizes its pieces. A down 2019 season should make the returning players eager to showcase their skills in 2021.

NEST Analysis – A premier program in the state, Lincoln Southwest is in contention for the Class A title on a yearly basis. 2021 looks to be no different as the Silver Hawks are ranked #4 in our pre-season poll. Coach Scheich welcomes back a massive amount of talent led by goalkeeper Nolan Fuelberth and midfielder Eli Rhodes. Pair those difference makers with other highly talented teammates and the expectations set themselves. A playing style emphasizing aggression, pace, and possession make LSW one of the most joyful teams to watch. Right now the Lincoln Southwest rules over Lincoln soccer. We will see if 2021 results in more of the same.

Previous Season Accomplishments – 2019 Class A State Qualifier

NEST Analysis – The Titans were poised to have a fantastic 2020 season. Their team had the wonderful combination of talent and experience, the pieces were coming together. Many of those seniors are now on college rosters. Despite that team’s story ending prematurely, the 2021 squad will have an opportunity to make up for lost time. Jack Redd is one of the highest rated returners in the state. He recently signed to continue his soccer career at Creighton University. Add a few more pieces and this team will be able to compete with anyone. We anticipate that those pieces will be found, that is why we have Papio South ranked #5 in Class A. Lastly, we want to take a moment to recognize Coach Lawrence’s frightening experience during the off-season. Earlier this year, Coach Lawrence suffered a heart attack while working out. Thankfully, with the help of medical professionals, Coach Lawrence has made a full recovery. If that isn’t impressive enough, he spearheaded a movement to increase the number of AEDs available to law enforcement.  Well done Dave Lawrence, and good luck this season.
